This Should Be Interesting
I’ve got a query out on a non-fiction essay I finished a couple of months back, and that’s the sort of thing that always draws my eye back to this site, and my various other social media outlets. It is the paranoia of the sort-of-connected: no frat-house keg-stands on Facebook, no, and those lingerie photos didn’t make it to Instagram, and man nobody knows about that thing in Jersey, but my…shudder…my “brand” could charitably be described as “mildly unhinged.” That is why I do these things at night, when it’s properly dark and inhibitions are lowered, when random neurochemistry sparkles and sensibility is already asleep behind the small box holding the ashy remains of Bob The Cat.
It’s at times like this I do have to remind myself that “Yes, I do in fact do these things on purpose.” There are always happy accidents, both large and small, but the main idea is to do the thing on purpose. To have intention, and fling that intention out into the world using whatever methods work for you: writing, music, video, covering yourself with blood and rolling around on big white sheets of paper, whatever. In some mediums I’m particularly fond of intentionality that looks unintentional, and vice-versa. Fans of Lost and the X-Files will know what I mean. “It looks like it’s going somewhere!” will carry you a long ways, and if by glob at the end all the threads come together in a burst of flashing eyebright craziness that really makes no fucking sense at all but my my my was that unaccountably satisfyin’! then that’s a win.
In the meantime, A Web Editor At A Perfectly Respectable Yet Unnamed Publication is free to peruse this site and find all of the bits of unhinged nonsense that have little to do with the new essay except that they, too, were made by me.
